contrast therapy
What is Contrast Therapy?
Contrast Therapy is quickly changing tissue temperature from hot to cold to hot to cold again. At Reinvent, this is achieved through the use of our infrared sauna and cold plunge.
How does it work?
Small blood vessels called capillaries respond to the cold water by getting smaller when you submerge part or all of your body in cold water. This is known as vasoconstriction. The opposite happens when you warm the body; your blood vessels open up. This is known as vasodilation. So, how do these circulatory changes help you? When you rapidly alternate between hot and cold, your blood vessels open and close in a pulsing pump-like motion. Some proponents think this pumping action can help relieve various injury symptoms and aid muscle recovery.
What is Contrast Therapy?
Cold Therapy offers a dual approach to pain and swelling management. The infrared sauna's radiant heat penetrates deep into your muscles, easing tension and reducing inflammation. As you step into the cold plunge, your body responds with a rush of adrenaline and endorphins, swiftly alleviating pain and enhancing your mood. This contrast therapy stimulates circulation, reduces inflammation, and promotes healing in a way that single treatments cannot.
Two studies conducted in 2007 show that contrast therapy can also help decrease the lactic acid in your body, helping you recover from the soreness and fatigue of strenuous exercise.
